Veritas analyzes financial claims from a web page only after you choose to analyze it. It does not collect your browsing history or analyze tabs in the background.

Accounts and monthly allowance

Veritas uses Firebase Authentication to create and sign in accounts with an email address and password. Firebase handles the password; the Veritas analysis service receives an account session token and verifies it before an audit. The extension stores your sign-in session in Chrome's local extension storage, while the website stores its separate session in your browser's local storage. Sign out or remove site and extension data to clear those local sessions.

Cloud Firestore stores a monthly count associated with your Firebase account identifier so Veritas can enforce 10 audit requests per calendar month. The count resets by starting a new calendar-month record at 00:00 UTC on the first day of each month. A request that reaches the analysis service may use an allowance even if the external analysis later fails. Your account email and monthly count can be viewed on the account page. Contact us to request account and usage-data deletion.

What an audit uses

When you start an audit, the extension reads the page URL, title, platform, and up to 18,000 characters of the selected passage or readable page text. It sends these to the configured Veritas analysis service. The service sends relevant text and research context to OpenAI to extract and assess claims and search for sources. Page text can include personal or sensitive information, so select only the passage you want analyzed when appropriate.

Local reports and retention

The extension saves up to 30 audit reports in Chrome's local extension storage so you can revisit them. Reports can contain exact quotes, source links, and the original page URL. Use Clear local history in a full report to delete saved reports from this browser. Chrome may sync or back up its profile data according to your browser settings.

The Veritas service does not write page text or audit reports to a persistent application database. It may keep a report in server memory for up to one hour to avoid repeating an identical analysis. Firebase stores account information and monthly usage counts, but not page text or reports. Hosting, authentication, database, and AI providers may process request metadata and submitted content under their own service terms and retention practices.

Permissions and use

The extension uses temporary active-tab access to read the page you choose when you start an audit. It has permanent access to the default Veritas service and Firebase sign-in endpoints, and asks for separate site access if you configure another service URL. It also uses scripting, side-panel, and local-storage permissions to open the interface, read content, and save reports. It does not sell page content or use it for advertising. Its use of data is limited to the user-facing audit and related reliability and abuse protection.

The use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.

Your choices

You can choose not to start an audit, select a shorter passage, clear locally saved reports, or remove the extension. If you change the analysis service URL in Settings, page content goes to the service you choose; that service's data practices may differ from this policy.
